Qatar Participates in 50th Anniversary Celebration for World Heritage Convention in Greece

Athens, November 19 (QNA) - The State of Qatar participated in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1972 UNESCO's World Heritage Committee, Delphi (Greece), from Nov. 16 to 18.
The State of Qatar was represented at the ceremony by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UNESCO Dr. Nasser bin Hamad Al Hanzab.
The agenda of this celebration, through several discussion sessions, focused on many of the challenges facing the world cultural and natural heritage, as well as building climate resilience for heritage, challenges and roads, and then sustainable tourism for the next fifty years.
HE Dr. Nasser bin Hamad Al Hanzab highlighted the support of the State of Qatar, through its efforts, in promoting the objectives of the World Heritage Convention, by supporting international efforts through the World Heritage Committee, to face the challenges related to the protection of heritage in the world, and strengthening the role of local communities through enhanced cooperation with UNESCO and the World Heritage Center, with the aim of enhancing their capabilities and raising awareness in local communities of the challenges related to their heritage and culture.
Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis had opened the celebration in the presence of Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay and a number of ambassadors of the member states of the World Heritage Committee. (QNA)
