Qatari Newspapers Editorials
Doha, December 13 (QNA) - In their editorials Tuesday, Qatari newspapers renewed their assertion that the State of Qatar has proven to the world that it deserves to organize the World Cup, especially that Qatar World Cup is characterized by being the most comprehensive and unique, and where everyone, young and old, enjoys the atmosphere of Doha, the capital of global sports.
The newspapers pointed out that the World Cup is the beginning of the global success of the State of Qatar, and from this achievement, work will start for sustainable development and economic diversification and to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.
In this regard, the papers referred to HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani's interview with the "Washington Post" on Monday about hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, as HE underlined that the State of Qatar has been subjected to unprecedented criticisms for 12 years, since submitting its bid to host the event in 2010.
The newspapers said that Qatar's celebration of the National Day next Sunday coincides with the global event, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and the great success achieved in organizing this tournament, noting that the slogan of this year's National Day "Our Unity Source of Our Strength" strengthened the values of unity, loyalty, and the solidarity of all the people of Qatar in order to continue achieving the renaissance and development that the country is witnessing in all fields.
Al-Raya newspaper said in its editorial that HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs' interview with the "Washington Post" set the record straight, as His Excellency stressed that the State of Qatar has been subjected to unprecedented criticisms for 12 years, since submitting its bid to host the event, adding that Qatar, as confirmed by HE, felt disappointed by some Western media outlets that were involved in these successive campaigns against Qatar without listening to the other side, which is the victim.
The paper underlined that the State of Qatar, as affirmed by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, worked to review the defects in the labor law, based on comprehensive legal reviews based on recommendations by a group of independent lawyers, and thus Qatar has worked on a systematic and legislative basis for a series of reforms that strengthened human rights and the rights of expatriate workers.
The newspaper pointed out that the State of Qatar accomplished these reforms in a period of 10 years, thus surpassing Western countries that place themselves at the forefront of the world in the field of human rights, noting that Qatar acknowledged that the World Cup had the credit for accelerating the implementation of these reforms, which were originally included within the Qatar National Vision 2030.
In conclusion, Al-Raya said that everyone enjoys the atmosphere of the World Cup in the capital of global sports, because this version did not see any clashes between the fans who meet in one place in an atmosphere of fun and enthusiasm without fear, whether in the stadiums or in their surroundings or in the metro, markets and fan zones, stressing that Qatar World Cup will remain the best and most successful ever in the history of previous editions, because Qatar asked everyone to come just to enjoy football and keep it away from politics.
Meanwhile, Al-Sharq daily said in its editorial that the World Cup is the beginning of global success for the State of Qatar, and from this achievement work will start for sustainable development and economic diversification and to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.
The legacy of the World Cup, the paper said, is also a new direction after the tournament in Qatar, as it will take on a global dimension that will help the most needy people around the world.
the paper added that the State of Qatar welcomes the world to attend the activities of the World Cup, one of the largest global sporting events, and one of the first events held in the post-COVID-19 era, as it succeeded in uniting the Arabs and gathering the world to get to know better about the Arab countries and the Middle East region.
The newspaper indicated that HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed in his interview with the "Washington Post" that the World Cup is just a beginning and will be followed by other steps, in which the State of Qatar will continue to make the World Cup a positive qualitative leap at all levels for Qatar, Arab countries and the region.
Al-Sharq concluded its editorial by saying that with the return of global preoccupation with the Covid-19 pandemic, the State of Qatar realizes the importance of teamwork and shared responsibility to eliminate the effects of the global health crisis and learns the importance of investing in innovative healthcare practices to address unprecedented healthcare crises.
For its part, Al-Watan newspaper said in its editorial that Qatar's celebration of its National Day next Sunday is distinct, as it coincides with the global sporting event, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and the impressive success achieved in organizing this tournament, giving a special meaning to this year's National Day slogan "Our Unity Source of Our Strength."
Unity manifested in its best form through the efforts of our people to present a unique World Cup edition, a slogan that strengthened the values of unity, loyalty, and solidarity in all of the people of Qatar to continue achieving the renaissance and development that the country is witnessing in all fields, the paper stressed.
The newspaper expressed its pride in the prestigious position that Qatar has assumed, as a result of being trustworthy regionally and internationally, thanks to the important roles it plays to achieve security, peace, and prosperity worldwide. The newspaper is also proud of what people enjoy in Qatar, as it has always been the goal and aspiration of its development. Therefore, education has received the greatest share of attention. The wise leadership realized that this is one of the most important elements of national unity, when an educated person can confront and adapt challenges in his favor, evolving to keep up with what the country needs and aspires.
Al-Watan concluded by saying that the slogan "Our Unity Source of Our Strength" embodies the culture of people who build their strength, achievements, and efforts harmoniously to continue the great achievements made by Qatar and strive for more, which meets our aspirations.
In turn, the English-language newspaper, The Peninsula, stressed that agriculture plays a strategic role in the State of Qatar’s food security. The country has addressed the situation by aiming to efficiently utilize ‘cutting-edge technology’ to establish a sustainable approach to food security for dry land countries.
In its editorial entitled "Food Security Commitment," the newspaper said that Qatar launched the National Food Security Program (QNFSP) in 2008, which aimed to reduce Qatar’s reliance on food imports through self-sufficiency. The strategy continued with a 2018-2023 strategy to meet 70 percent of the country’s food needs through four primary areas: agriculture, desalination, renewable energy, and food manufacturing.
In conclusion, The Peninsula pointed out in its editorial that agriculture using modern technology is critical to sustaining food security for countries in water-scarce and arid regions. Qatar’s expertise and know-how in local food production can be considered an example in the region. (QNA)
