Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha, October 08 (QNA) - In their editorials, the Qatari newspapers published Saturday dealt with the great gains made by Qatari women in various fields thanks to the unlimited support of the wise leadership that believes in the necessity of empowering women socially, economically and politically. She even reached high leadership positions at the local and international levels, and performed the roles entrusted to her with success and professionalism. The newspapers considered Qatari women an essential partner in development, affirming that the Country will continue to advance the status of women at the national, regional and international levels. In its editorial today, Al-Raya newspaper pointed out the State of Qatar's participation in the General Debate of the works of the Third Committee of the 77th Session of the General Assembly on the item Advancement of Women, as Qatar reviewed its programs and policies related to women advancement in various vital fields, affirming that the advancement of the status of women is one of the priorities of its policy, based on its firm belief in the importance of promoting human rights and enhancing her equal participation in the sustainable development efforts of the Country, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, as Qatar is keen to pursue policies aimed at equal opportunities for women in education, employment and care. The newspaper added that he State of Qatar has the right to be proud of its honorable record in the field of promoting and empowering women, as Qatari women enjoy full care and attention from the Country, which made it to the top of the region’s countries in gender equality indicators, including the highest rate of women’s participation in the labor force, equal wages in the government sector, in addition to the highest female enrollment in universities. Al-Raya concluded it editorial by affirming that Qatari women have played important roles in various historical stages. The permanent constitution of the State of Qatar came to confirm this active role of women, to enhance their rights and to criminalize discrimination against them. It enshrined the principle of equality between citizens in rights and duties, stipulated the prohibition of gender-based discrimination, and equal opportunities to enjoy services and participate in all areas. Qatar will continue its efforts to advance the women, empower them and enhance their participation in all aspects of life at the national, regional and international levels. In the same context, Al-Watan newspaper noted, in its editorial today, that Qatar has for decades adopted a set of policies aimed at equal opportunities for women in education, employment and care. This made it to the top of the region's countries in gender equality indicators, including the highest rate of women's participation in the labor force, and equal wages in the government sector. The newspaper pointed out that the legislation and policies aimed at achieving a balance between work and family responsibilities, adopted by the State of Qatar, to contribute to enhancing women's participation in the workforce, whether in the public or private sectors. Women have become a competitors to men in the highest administrative positions, in addition to being an effective partner in the development process of the Country, due to her capabilities and keenness to actively participate in all the achievements of our beloved country, within the framework of the values ​​established by our religion. For its part, the English-language newspaper "The Peninsula", in its editorial today, highlighted the Country's preparations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, pointing out to the expanding of the infrastructure of the country at a very rapid pace to welcome the thousands of fans who will arrive in Qatar to witness the biggest celebration of the beautiful game of football. The newspaper affirmed that Qatar has also been spending considerable efforts in expanding and developing the facilities at its various ports of entry. These will not only serve Qatar 2022 preparations but will also play a key role after the World Cup, as the Country recently announced the implementation of the expansion and development of facilities at the various entry points, which will benefit the Country in supporting the movement of trade exchange. The newspaper pointed out to development at the land port of Abu Samra Border Crossing, which will now serve travelers to and from Qatar with more than double the previous capacity after the increase in the number of passenger vehicle service lanes. The increase in service lanes will speed up the procedures at the border for incoming travelers, especially for fans coming for Qatar 2022, when a huge influx of visitors is expected through the land port. The Peninsula explained that the development of the port will also contribute to enhancing Qatar’s commercial and industrial activity by facilitating the movement of goods, materials and people to and from the country through its land port. As Qatar is focusing on promoting tourism even after the World Cup, the upgraded land port will play a crucial role in the future welcoming the tourists who are coming by road. On the other hand, Al-Sharq newspaper, in its Saturday editorial, focused on the Palestinian issue, the crimes of the Israeli occupation and its continued escalation of attacks against the Palestinian people through its continuous raids and incursions into Palestinian villages and towns in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, and the heinous crimes committed by the occupation forces during them, the most recent of which was the martyrdom of the child Adel Ibrahim Daoud and Mahdi Ladawa. It added that every day in the Palestinian territories is witnessing more than one crime committed by the occupation forces against the Palestinian people, including field executions of youth, children and women, raids, incursions, daily arrest campaigns, house demolitions, displacement of residents, and settlement expansion, in addition to attacking the Islamic and Christian sanctities. Al-Sharq warned that the continuation of the Israeli escalation in these crimes without firm intervention from the international community and the US administration to stop and hold the Israeli government accountable will lead to an explosion of the situation and to more tension and instability, a tension that will push the situations towards a catastrophic escalation. The newspaper held the government of the Israeli entity directly responsible for its criminal, escalatory policies against the Palestinians, and the repercussions that would result from them, which might drag the region into a new cycle of violence. It is a situation for which the international community bears the responsibility as well, as it forms a cover for the violations and crimes of the occupation, which are based on double standards.
