Doha, November 13 (QNA) - In their editorials Sunday, Qatari newspapers highlighted several topics, most notably the efforts and readiness of the State of Qatar to host the largest football event in the world, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The newspapers focused on the Doha Metro, which is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Qatar, which aims to provide public and sustainable modes of transport in the country. The papers stressed that since it won the honor of hosting the World Cup, Qatar has believed in its capabilities and worked hard to make the World Cup one of the best in the history of football, without paying attention to the hateful campaigns that targeted it under flimsy pretexts based on racist goals. On the Arab arena, the newspapers highlighted the United Nations General Assembly's unanimous vote on four resolutions in favor of Palestine, including extending the mandate of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) for three years, which is considered a positive international support for the Palestinian cause, and an important message comes in light of the escalation of systematic violations committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people and its failure to abide by international law. In its editorial, Al-Raya newspaper said that a week before the start of the international sport event in Qatar, national efforts are continuing to ensure the readiness of all vital sectors to serve the World Cup guests so that Qatar shows achievement and creativity, noting that Qatar did not leave room for coincidence, implemented plans on the ground and confirmed to the world its readiness after 12 years of effort. The newspaper said that the most important thing for the World Cup guests is the advanced transport network that Qatar provided to the world, in the forefront of which is the Doha Metro, referring to HE Managing Director and CEO of Qatar Rail Dr. Abdulla bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie's affirmation that the company's preparations for the FIFA World Cup are a years-long effort that started in 2010 when planning for the Doha Metro project commenced, while taking into account all requirements for a world-class metro network that serves not only the World Cup but as a legacy for future generations and the city of Doha. The daily stressed that the State of Qatar did not allocate its infrastructure projects to the World Cup only, but rather it is a sustainable legacy for future generations, including the Doha Metro, noting that nowadays the focus is to serve the World Cup fans. In conclusion, Al-Raya said that the Doha Metro provides advanced transport solutions that keep pace with the development taking place in Qatar at all levels, noting the State of Qatar's giant projects and its leadership in the field of development, project quality and individual's welfare. The Gulf Times newspaper said that Qatar's gateway to the world – Hamad International Airport is all set to receive more than a million visitors who will be in Doha soon to witness the greatest sporting spectacle – FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Under the title "HIA's new terminal to help meet growing passenger and freight needs", the paper said that last week, Hamad International Airport opened the newly expanded terminal as part of its 'Phase A' expansion, which means the state-of-the-art airport will now be able to cater to 58mn passengers annually. The expanded terminal houses HIA’s second airport hotel – ‘Oryx Garden’ and ‘Orchard’ – an indoor tropical garden that has sourced 300 plus trees and 25,000 plants from sustainable forests around the world, the newspaper noted. In the expanded terminal, Qatar Duty Free is offering retail and F&B options with more than 65 retail and dining outlets spread across its three levels, the paper added. Gulf Times concluded by saying that Hamad International Airport's expansion will enhance the ambition of the airport, which aspires to maintain its position as the best airport in the world. For its part, The Peninsula newspaper said under the title "World Cup buzz begins" that teams have started arriving in Doha to compete in the historic FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. USA became the first team to land in Doha on Thursday night. Many fans from different countries have also arrived in Qatar creating an electrifying atmosphere in different parts of the country ahead of the big kick off between Qatar and Ecuador on Nov. 20 at Al Bayt Stadium, the newspaper noted. Th Peninsula concluded by saying that Qatar is completely ready to host an exceptional tournament. All the arrangements to host an estimated 1.2 million fans are in place. Organizers have ensured enough accommodation for the fans. In turn, Al-Watan said that one week before the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, a new benchmark for hosting this event seems to be on its way to becoming the example that every country in the world aspires to, to be ready to win this honor, and the Arab region has come to the fore, after Qatar overcame the hateful racist campaign and proved its worth in organizing this most prominent sport event in an unprecedented way. The newspaper indicated that since it won the honor of hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022, Qatar has believed in its capabilities and worked hard to make the World Cup one of the best in the history of football, without paying attention to the hateful campaigns that targeted it under flimsy pretexts based on racist goals. Qatar, as it prepares to launch the tournament after one week, is confident of achieving unprecedented success, which prompted those who launched hateful campaigns to direct their poisonous darts, after it became clear that what Qatar did will rise the World Cup championships to wider horizons for the whole world to enjoy the most popular game. In conclusion, Al-Watan said that all campaigns have failed, and the world has discovered that the hateful campaigns against Qatar have targeted the noble goals of sport. On the other hand, Al-Sharq newspaper considered the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of four resolutions in favor of Palestine, including extending the mandate of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the illegality of Israeli settlements, as a positive international support for the Palestinian cause, and an important message comes in light of the escalation of systematic violations committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people and its failure to abide by international law. The newspaper said in its editorial that the Palestinian and Arab welcome, issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the League of Arab States, to the resolutions backed by broad international support in the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, as they are consistent with the historic international stances and resolutions issued by the United Nations that guarantee and support the rights of the Palestinian people to return and self-determination, and to exercise their inalienable rights in building their independent state as a way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region. These resolutions, which express a decisive international will, entail a moral and legal responsibility on the international community and its institutions to work seriously to end the occupation, and to pressure the Israeli entity to engage in a real peace process, enabling the Palestinian people to have the right to self-determination and to reach a comprehensive and just peace in accordance with International law, relevant international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, the paper said. Finally, Al-Sharq emphasized the firm stance of the State of Qatar that a permanent, comprehensive and just settlement of the cause of Palestine will only be achieved on the basis of international law, international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, leading to ending the occupation of all occupied Arab lands, including the Syrian Golan and the occupied Lebanese territories, and settlement, and achieving a just solution to the refugee issue, and the Palestinians’ enjoyment of their full and inalienable rights, especially their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the vision of the two-state solution.
