Doha, December 08 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers published Thursday underlined in their editorials that as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 enters the quarter-final stage, security and safety clearly emerge in the tournament, which is the safest among all previous editions.
The newspapers said that the State of Qatar is leading in international safety and security indicators, and the professionalism of the Qatari security authorities which played an effective role, along with the forces of friendly countries, in controlling crowds smoothly and without any clashes or attacks among the fans.
The papers praised the integrated organization by officials in the State of Qatar who prepared for such a huge sport event, which includes hundreds of thousands of fans from different countries and cultures, noting that the Qatari security is the champion of this World Cup due to the huge efforts that have contributed to keeping things under control and within normal conditions.
The newspapers also highlighted the pioneering pivotal role played by the State of Qatar since it joined UN membership in 1971, in the framework of supporting international efforts aimed at achieving peace, security and sustainable development, in addition to its commitment to developing sustainable programs and initiatives, in cooperation with the United Nations, and the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, in order to achieve security and stability.
Al-Sharq newspaper said in its editorial that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, with half of the days over, proved the success of all parties concerned with securing this global event, and that the process of implementing the security plan went smoothly without any incidents being recorded, noting the successive acclaims from the public and the media since the start of the tournament for the role played by the security authorities, not only in securing and organizing the tournament, but also for their role in providing all facilities and services to fans and visitors, as well as providing the appropriate security environment for the participating teams and tournament referees in stadiums, training sites and residences.
The newspaper pointed out that the State of Qatar has reaped the fruits of years of hard work and careful planning by the security authorities represented by the Ministry of Interior and the Safety and Security Operations Committee (SSOC) of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, in addition to keenness on joint cooperation with various entities and brotherly and friendly countries.
The paper underlined that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 has turned out to be the safest tournament of its kind with zero crime and incident, which is an indication of the success of the plans to secure matches, events and crowd management.
Al-Sharq concluded its editorial by saying that this success achieved so far in securing this global event is a natural extension of a series of great achievements in the record of security and stability that the State of Qatar has enjoyed, the most prominent evidence of this is that Qatar has topped the countries of the Middle East and North Africa countries in international indicators concerned with measuring the state of security, such as the Global Peace Index, the Nambio Encyclopedia Index, and other indicators.
Meanwhile, Al-Raya daily said its editorial that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, with half of the days over, proved the success of all parties concerned with securing this global event, noting that Qatar, represented by the Tournament Security Force and the General Security, has prepared well in terms of qualification, training and employment of all capabilities and means to make this tournament the safest among other tournaments.
The paper noted that the Tournament Security Force planned distinctly to provide all facilities and services to the fans at the level of competitive and non-competitive facilities, to provide the appropriate security environment for the participating teams and tournament referees in stadiums, training sites and residences. The security authorities have applied security and safety measures for the fans in accordance with the best standards used in various locations, especially at the entrance gates to stadiums and event sites, to provide the highest levels of security and safety, it added.
In conclusion, Al-Raya said that Qatar confirmed to the whole world its worthiness and right to organize the World Cup, as fans gathered from all over the world in stadiums, metro stations, transportation means and accommodation, as well as in fans' zones and tourist destinations where they enjoyed an atmosphere of enthusiasm and excitement without any clashes or disturbances.
In turn, the English-language newspaper The Peninsula confirmed that Qatar continues to stage a dazzling FIFA World Cup, making the entire Middle East and the Arab world proud and drawing hundreds of thousands of football fans and tourists from across the globe.
In its editorial titled "A trailblazing World Cup," the newspaper said that with 56 matches already played, the tournament has been hailed as the best group stage ever. For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, teams from all continents were represented in the last 16 at Qatar 2022, with three nations from the Asian Football Confederation and two African teams.
Off the pitch too, the World Cup has been a huge success with over two million people celebrating the occasion in the streets and dozens of public places across Qatar. Apart from the main FIFA Fan Festival and fan attractions along the Doha Corniche, other public places like Msheireb Downtown Doha, Souq Waqif, several locations in Lusail, The Pearl Island, and Education City have been drawing huge numbers of fans and tourists daily, the paper noted.
The newspaper concluded its editorial by saying that Qatar has also moved to ease entry requirements for people from the GCC. Nationals and residents of the GCC states can now enter Qatar without the need to register on Hayya platform.
In another matter, Al-Watan newspaper highlighted the pioneering and pivotal role played by the State of Qatar, since its accession to membership in the United Nations in 1971, in the framework of supporting international efforts aimed at achieving peace, security and sustainable development, in addition to its commitment to developing sustainable programs and initiatives, in cooperation with the United Nations, and the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, in order to achieve security and stability.
The State of Qatar adopts an open and holistic approach and seeks to be a role model for change in the region, in line with the UN values, making it indeed an example and a reliable partner capable of strengthening international frameworks and effectively contributing to the consolidation of security and stability in the Arab region and the world, the paper said.
In this context, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) team at the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) has selected the State of Qatar as a model for the use of the MARS application (Monitoring Application for Reporting on SDGs), which is an application for monitoring and reporting on sustainable development goals in the Arab region. HE President of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Csaba Korosi also chose HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani and HE Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations Ambassador Fergal Mythen to facilitate and lead consultations on the Political Declaration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit during the 77th session of the General Assembly.
In conclusion, Al-Watan said that all these indicators affirm Qatar's pioneering role and the great international confidence it has in its direction to support the UN programs. (QNA)
