Radar system in Kurecik for defense purposes only, says defense minister

KAYSERI (A.A) - Turkey's National Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz said on Friday that the radar system in south-eastern province of Malatya's Kurecik town was for defense purposes only. Speaking to reporters while visiting the Governor of Kayseri province Mevlut Bilici, Yilmaz said that the radar system carried no system for an attack on a country. As such, no country should fear this radar system in Kurecik, Yilmaz stressed. The radar system in Kurecik was erected by NATO and protects Turkey as well as other NATO members. Touching on the issue of Syria, Ismet Yilmaz said that the Syrian opposition opened a contact office in Turkey. The difficulty in our neighbor Syria also implies difficulty for us. We want the Syrian people to reach better living standards. We will do what the Syrian people tell us to do, Yilmaz indicated. The Syrian people are our brothers and sisters. We are by the Syrian people, Yilmaz added.
