Rainwater flooded many parts of greater Bangkok

BANGKOK, Oct 14 (TNA) -- Heavy downpours late last night until early morning caused flooding in many parts of Bangkok and its outskirts and floodwater remained in many areas this morning. Vibhavadi Rangsit Road was completely inundated and traffic congestion stretched on long distances on the main road. Flood levels were 20-50 centimeters deep at Lat Phrao intersection which became impassable to small vehicles. Suthisarn intersection was 50cm under water and many small vehicles broke down there. The section of Ratchadaphisek Road from Fortune Building to Huai Khwang was also deeply flooded. Both sides of Phahon Yothin Road at Saphan Khwai intersection were flooded. Floodwater there reached Rang Nam Road. On Ratchaprarop Road, floodwater was tyre-deep. Flooding also covered many zones in Thon Buri area. On Ngam Wong Wan 18 Road, floodwater covered footpaths and small vehicles should not enter it. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration reported that rain covered Thon Buri, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Samut Prakan and the Gulf of Thailand at 5.15am. The highest rain amount measured 203 millimeters in Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok. The Meteorological Department stated that the convergence of a high pressure system from China and the southwestern monsoon would prolong heavy rain in Thailand. Tropical Storm Khanun was located in the middle part of the South China Sea to the west of the Philippines and would not have a direct impact on weather conditions in the country in the next few days.
