The Red Crescent organises campaign to vaccinate Syrian refugees in UAE funded Jordanian camp

Amman, May 13, 2013 (WAM) - : The UAE Jordanian camp near the Syrian border has launched a comprehensive vaccination campaign for Syrian refugees against infectious diseases and epidemics, polio and measles, and providing Syrian child refugees in the camp with vitamin A. Saif Ali Al Dhaheri, Director General of the UAE camp in Jordan stated that the campaign aims to vaccinate all residents in the camp under the supervision of the UAE Red Crescent Authority, The Jordanian Ministry of Health, and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) against infectious diseases and epidemics in order to manage the refugee camp's health commitments to safety and disease prevention. He said the campaign comes from a plan presented by the Emirati medical team in coordination with the relevant authorities to vaccinate refugees in the camp against infectious diseases, polio and measles. The UAE Red Crescent attaches great importance to the health of refugees and the prevention of infectious diseases. Al Dhaheri pointed out that this procedure for the camp is a purely preventive measure as currently here are no serious medical conditions among the refugees. The campaign will include all refugees arriving at the camp in the future. For his part, Dr. Khalid Al- Sa'adi, Executive Director of the Jordanian Arab Emirates Hospital, and Medical Centre supervisor in the camp, said that the camp management has completed necessary actions to raise the ceiling of the camp children's immunisation programme from birth to five years, and to give vitamin A for children between the ages of six months and five years. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
