Relations with Western European and Arab countries have reached new level: Jeenbekov

When I assumed office of President, I inherited a lot of unresolved problems in foreign policy, Sooronbay Jeenbekov said at a session of the Kyrgyz Parliament on Tuesday. According to the President, he spent much time and energy resolving problems that have become a tight spot in foreign policy in recent years. "My first year as president was aimed at strengthening relations with our neighbours and their confidence in us. I tried to establish relations based on the national interests of the state, but at the same time to gain the trust of partners from near and distant countries. Our new pragmatic foreign policy, based on national interests, has entered its course. Our relations with our allies and strategic partners have strengthened, and relations with Western European and Arab countries have reached a new level," the Kyrgyz leader stressed. He noted that the state border situation, especially in the Tajik direction, is still difficult. "Despite the fact that Kyrgyzstan and brotherly Kazakhstan are in the same economic space - EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union), there are still some problems. These circumstances give rise to discontent among the people. I understand well that the people demand a prompt resolution of these issues. However, these issues cannot be resolved unilaterally, without the participation of neighbors. We should not forget that this task requires delicate treatment without populism," said the President. Jeenbekov noted the negotiation process is ongoing. "Unfortunately, problems cannot always be solved quickly. Intergovernmental commissions and groups work. During all meetings with heads of state these issues are raised. They are always in the center of my attention as President. I hope that we will solve these problems," Jeenbekov concluded. Today, June 30 President Jeenbekov attended the ceremony of taking oath by new members of the Kyrgyz Government which took place during the Parliament session.
