Relocation of Interior Ministry

BANGKOK, Aug 17 (TNA) -- The Interior Ministry is looking for its new location in a century, eying a 100-rai golf course under the supervision of the Royal Irrigation Department in Pak Kret district of Nonthaburi province. The ministry featuring beautiful ancient Thai architecture has been on Asadang Road close to the ancient moat of the historical Rattanakosin Island for more than 100 years. Some local residents are sorry for the planned relocation because the old ministry has been part of their live since it was a small one-floor building. Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paojinda said he ordered relevant officials to look for a new location where all organizations under the ministry will be in the same compound for public conveniences. The permanent secretary for interior wrote to the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to seek the 100-rai golf course of the Royal Irrigation Department in Pak Kret district as the new location of the Interior Ministry. A committee of the Royal Irrigation Department was set to discuss the issue today (Aug 17). The Interior Ministry was founded in 1892. Since then there have been 56 interior ministers. (TNA)
