Renewal energy plans highlighted

Manama, Mar.30 (BNA): Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received United Nations Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Amin Al-Sharqawi and congratulated him on the delivery of the first solar house and its connection with the Net Metering system.
The minister said this was a major step in the implementation of the National Plan for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and is also a step towards 5 per cent of the energy consumption in Bahrain being renewal energy by 2025.
Al-Sharqawi discussed with the minister the importance of encouraging the private sector to support and invest in the solar energy market to reduce dependence on natural gas in line with the goals of sustainable development.
He said that UNDP is supporting the Sustainable Energy Unit by providing technical expertise to achieve the goals of the National Energy Efficiency Plan.
He said this would help support Bahrain in achieving comprehensive sustainable development goals and constitutes a positive boost towards the achievement of Bahrain's international commitments, especially energy efficiency and renewable energy.
