Rescuers Find Fragments Of Missing Russian Plane On Mountain

By Ahmad Fuad Yahya JAKARTA, May 10 (Bernama) -- The fragments of a Russian Superjet-100 aircraft with about 50 people on board was found Thursday morning scattered on a mountain where it crashed during a demonstration flight. The fate of the passengers and crew members remains unknown. The aircraft debris have been spotted by a search and rescue helicopter on Salak Mountain, said Halimun Salak Mountain National Park operation coordinator chief Ketut Purwa. Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has ordered aviation authorities to carry out a full investigation into the incident and urged rescue teams to look for any survivors of the ill-fated plane. National Transportation Safety Committee chief Tatang Kurnadi hoped rescue teams from Basarnas would find the black box of the plane from the wreckage. The aircraft was said to be carrying Indonesian businessmen, eight Russians, including embassy officials, pilots and technicians, and journalists when it went missing Wednesday. -- BERNAMA
