RI-China Agree To Step Up Coop
Jakarta, Sept 19 (Antara) - Indonesia and China have agreed to increase cooperation in order to minimize the negative political, as well as economic impact of the dynamics in the current global situation.
"We have been confronted with global developments, which are quite dynamic and Indonesia deems it necessary to cooperate to maintain its regional stability," Indonesia`s Coordinating Minister for Political, Security and Legal Affairs Djoko Suyanto said here on Thursday.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 4th Dialog Forum between the Office of the Coordinating Minister of Security, Political and Legal Affairs and the State Council of the People`s Republic of China, he stated that the world was currently facing a very dynamic global situation in political, economic, social, as well as cultural terms following the progress in information technology.
"The fast changes in the Middle East, as well as the economic upheavals still being faced by Europe and the U.S. have more or less affected global security and economic conditions, including in Asia," he pointed out.
In view of these developments, Indonesia had become more aware of the importance of strategic cooperation with friendly countries in the region, such as China.
"Through such a strategic partnership, the negative impact of dynamics in the global situation can be minimized," he said.
China`s State Council member Yang Jieji shared the view saying the two countries` offices were confronting a dynamic and crucial situation.
"Therefore, I agreed to step up cooperation that will mutually benefit both China and Indonesia and reduce the negative impact of the global situation, which is not yet conducive," he added.
The meeting was held behind closed doors.
