RI-China Enhance Coop To Improve Social Welfare

Jakarta, Sept 9 (Antara) - Indonesian Social Ministry and Chinese Civil Affairs Ministry have enhanced their cooperation in improving social welfare. Indonesian Social Minister Salim Segaf Al Jufri and his Chinese counterpart Li Liguo have held a meeting here on Monday to discuss and explore many possibilities to enhance their cooperation. On the meeting, Minister Jufri said that there are many Indonesian government programs in adressing issues related on social welfare problems such as "Program Keluarga Harapan (Ideal Family Program)", "Rehabilitasi Sosial rumah Tidak Layak Huni (Social Rehabilitation for Unlivable House)" and those programs concerned on children and th elderly issues. Minister Liguo, meanwhile, said that his office handles many social issues that are broader than that adressed by the Indonesian ministry. However, China would focus in the cooperation on how to solve problem of children and the elderly. Earlier, MInister Jufri had visited China to learn China`s efforts to handle the problems of children and the eldery. The today`s meeting resulted in advanced step which is, among other things, an appointment of the two countries to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation to adress social welfare issues. "Minister Liguo is also scheduled to visit several work units under Indonesian Social Ministry to review how Indonesian goverment handles social issues and then the directorat general meeting would be held later," said Jufri. On the meeting, Minister Liguo was accompanied by other China`s delegations such as Director General Zhang Weixing, Director General of the Welfare and Charity Promotion Ministry Zhang Chengfu, Director General of International Cooperation Departement Kang Peng, Minister`s Secretary Zeng Xiancai and an offical from the China Embassy in Jakarta Mr. Li Jialong.
