RM8 Mln Medical Costs Owed By Foreign Workers Collected
KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Government hospitals have collected RM8
million (US$2.58 mulliion) arrears in medical costs by foreign workers since
last year.
Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai said that the government was able to do this
after the implementation of a health scheme for foreign workers early last year.
"Before the scheme was implemented, foreign workers owed about RM20
million (US$6.45 million)," he told reporters at Genting Employee Street
Carnival 2012 at Genting World Resort Friday night.
The Foreign Workers Health Scheme requires all foreign workers in Malaysia
to have health insurance from RM120 (US$38.7) per year.
