Roy Suryo Appointed As New Youth And Sports Affairs Minister

Jakarta, Jan 11 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono announced on Friday that he had appointed Roy Suryo, a Democratic Party faction member in the House of representatives (DPR) as the new Youth and Sport Affairs Minister, to replace Andi Mallarangeng. After meeting with President Yudhoyono here on Friday morning, Roy said there are three main points that he would first handle as the youth and sports minister. The three points are the revamping of the internal matters of the Youth and Sport Ministry, an effort to improve the country`s sports achievement and the settlement of the dualism of the soccer stakeholders between the All-Indonesia Soccer Association (PSSI) and the breakaway Indonesian Soccer Rescue Committee (KPSI). The dualism problem occurred last year after four Executive committee members of PSSI namely La Nyalla Mattalitti, Erwin Dwi Budiawan, Roberto Rouw and Tony Apriliani were fired by the Djohar Arifin Husin-led PSSI as a sanction for allegedly violating the soccer association`s rules. The Youth and Sport ministerial post vacant since December 8, 2012 following the resignation of Andi Mallarangeng after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named him as suspect that linked to the graft case of the Hambalang sports facilities. The 44 year-old Roy Suryo with his complete name "Kanjeng Raden Mas Tumenggung Roy Suryo Notodiprojo" was born in Yogyakarta. He is one of executive board members of the ruling Democratic Party who oversees the communication and information affairs.
