RTAF launches an event to help farmers

BANGKOK, Nov 26 (TNA) -- Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) chief has launched the 'Air Force Helps Farmers' event, commencing the initiation of the activity by purchasing one tonne of rice. RTAF Chief Air Chief Marshal Chom Roongsawang visited and gave his moral support to farmers who were participating in the event at the Air Force Sports Stadium yesterday, after which he also used the opportunity to purchase an accumulated quantity of one tonne of rice from all the vendors present at the event. The Air Force chief said the said project has been initiated in line with the government's policy in organising venues for the buyers and sellers to directly trade. He said prices of products on display at the event are also reasonable, in which he believes would be benefit to both parties, noting that he had further organised transportation and lodgings for the farmers from the 14 provinces. As for the tonne of rice he bought, the Air Force chief said he would keep some for personal consumption and give the rest out to close friends and family, pointing out that if all Thai people help by eating rice 3 meals a day, rice prices should improve. The RTAF has encouraged farmers to display their products at the stadium between November 25-December 5, 2016 between 10 am to 11 pm., where the farmers have been provided with free transportation and accommodations, in a bid to help lower the farmers' production costs. Primarily, up to 80 participants have registered to participate in the event to showcase a total of 143 tonnes of rice, including jasmine rice, T1 jasmine rice, organic rice, brown rice, riceberry, along with other produce such as lime, grapes, and grape.
