Sales of roses inactive ahead of Valentine’s Day
BANGKOK, Feb 13 (TNA) -- Sluggish national economy along with the appearance of more sellers at other markets have made sales of roses at Bangkok’s Pak Klong Talad, the largest flower market in the Thai capital, ahead of St Valentine’s Day not to be so active.
Flower sellers at Pak Klong Talad said not too many buyers turned up at the market since early Monday while florist shop owners have decorated their shops with colourful flowers and made flower arrangement in exciting and various forms to attract passersby.
Red, white and pink roses remain popular among celebrants during the upcoming the day of love, especially roses which are imported from the Netherlands and China, along with big roses from the northern capital of Chiang Mai, said flower vendors at the market.
Single roses are sold at between 30-200 baht each while roses in bunch are sold between 100-2,000 baht a bunch.
Vendors at the market admit that the cost of roses this year is more expensive than last year due to current chilly weather, affecting the rose to bloom.
Another major factor for the sluggish sale of roses this year is that loving couples switch to buying other kinds of gift for their loved ones, said the flower vendors while they kept their fingers crossed, hoping that more customers would turn up tomorrow. (TNA)
