Sarawak To Have New Technology University By 2013

SIBU (Malaysia), April 27 (Bernama) -- Sarawak will have a new technology university and the fifth one in the state soon. The University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) is a joint venture between the state government and University Kuala Lumpur, is expected to begin operations in the second half of 2013, UCTS said in a statement made available to the press here Thursday night. It said the construction of its campus was expected to begin in June this year on a 36 hectare site near the Laila Taib College in Old Airport Road. "UCTS will begin conducting Bachelor Degree, Masters-level and Phd programmes in the campus by June 2013. In addition to being a teaching and learning university, it will also be conducting research in its specially designed technology park," it said. The statement said it hoped UCTS would allow more students to pursue technologically related programmes which was its priority. "This is crucial to the future development of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE). UCTS will also use its technology park as an incubator for new industries and technologies together with both local and foreign industrial partners who are keen to invest in SCORE," it added. Sarawak is an East Malaysia state. --BERNAMA
