SCW Secretary-General highlights Bahraini women's role in protecting environment

Manama, Mar. 23 (BNA): Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), Hala Al-Ansari, affirmed the importance of the role played by Bahraini women in contributing to global efforts to protect the environment, as part of the kingdom’s environment-related plans and initiatives, including commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, speeding up efforts to use renewable energy sources, the issuance of the Law on Environment 2022, among others, which confirms Bahrain’s adherence to the Paris Climate Agreement.
Al-Ansari made the statements while receiving here today Associate Professor of Geographical Information Sciences and Environment at the Arabian Gulf University and SCW member, Dr. Sabah Saleh Aljenaid, and Head of the Physics Department at the University of Bahrain, Dr. Hanan Mubarak Al-Buflasa, following their honouring by the United Nations Media Centre (UNIC), in cooperation with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the UN Country Teams (UNCT) as the most prominent Arab scientists, especially in the field of sustainability, environment and renewable energy, on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
The SCW Secretary-General commended the efforts of Dr. Aljenaid and Dr. Al-Buflasa, who were able to draw the attention of the international community in the field of environment and climate change, praising their pioneering scientific, academic and professional career, characterised by excellence and dedication.
Dr. Aljenaid and Dr. Al-Buflasa expressed thanks and appreciation to the SCW for its support for providing opportunities for Bahraini women’s advancement, distinction and creativity.
They affirmed their keenness to enhance communication with the SCW on issues related to the environment and climate to promote Bahraini women’s presence in this field, calling for the need to highlight young talents in various fields of science, especially climate action.
