Security Of PM Not Compromised During Amok Drama, Says Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- The security of Prime Minister Najib Razak was not compromised at any time during the amok drama on Monday at Complex B of the Prime Minister's Department in Putrajaya, according to Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein. "I can confirm that PM's security was not compromised at any time. The police are still investigating the motive, links, plans, etc. Give them time to do their job," he said in a posting on his Facebook page. Hishammuddin said the authorities were always on the alert in ensuring the security of the prime minister. A man, Khalil Afandi Hamid, 47, who claimed to be the promised messiah Imam Mahadi who will arrive to re-establish uprightness before the day of judgement, and a 28-year-old woman went on a rampage with two samurai swords and were shot by police. Khalil Afandi died in Putrajaya Hospital following the incident at 2.30 pm, while the woman has been hospitalised. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dr Koh Tsu Koon said security at the Prime Minister's Department would be stepped up. Kuala Lumpur Police chief Mohmad Salleh said security at the Prime Minister's Department was under control and hoped that the incident would not be taken advantage of by anyone. "The police would step up patrols and undertake general policing in Putrajaya and around the Prime Minister's Department," he said. He also said that policemen in plainclothes would be deployed to monitor the vicinity of the Prime Minister's Department and Putrajaya. Cuepacs President Omar Osman, when contacted by Bernama, proposed that security be stepped up outside the Prime Minister's Department as well and the movement of individuals and groups be monitored outside all government offices in Putrajaya. -- BERNAMA
