Several Candidates Will Apply For KPK Leadership Post: MPR Chairman

Lampung, June 5 (Antara) - Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan expressed confidence here on Friday that many would register for selection to become candidates for the post of anti-graft agency (KPK) commissioner. The registration for the KPK leadership's candidacy officially commenced here on Friday and will be open until June 24. "I believe many patriots would run for the KPK leadership," he stated when contacted by newsmen here for comments on the issue. Zulkifli did not agree with some quarters who claimed that participation would be minimal due to the issue of "criminalization" of the current leadership. According to the selection committee spokesman Betti Alisjahbana, two people had already registered for the selection. "One registered via email and the other through the secretariat. Usually, more will come later as they must also prepare the required paperwork," she explained here on Friday. She remarked that the committee will select candidates based on the criteria set in accordance with the law. "What is important is that we will follow the law. The requirements are already defined. We will also evaluate their integrity, leadership and managerial skills, independence, and competency," she revealed. Zulkifli was scheduled to attend an event in Lampung but had to opt out, as he was invited to a presidential function at the Bogor palace. "I was suddenly invited by President Jokowi to come to the Bogor palace. Convey my regards to the newsmen. Sorry, I could not come to Lampung," he added. ***2***
