Ships leave to help flood victims in South

BANGKOK, Jan 7 (TNA) -- The HTMS Ang Thong and 20 other ships of the Royal Thai Navy are scheduled to leave for the flooded southern Nakhon Si Thammarat province Sunday afternoon to aid flood victims and to also solve flood problem which is now destructing southern provinces. Vice Admiral Adirek Chompoonuj, director-general of Naval Civil Affairs Department said the HTMS Ang Thong and the ships will use Nakhon Si Thammarat as the base in assisting flood victims in seven southern provinces. A total of 20 ships will be employed in pushing flood water into the sea in the province’s Pak Phanang district while another 30 ships are assigned for a similar action in nearby Cha-uat district. Besides those ships, a Super Lynx helicopter, some 60 relief officials plus doctors will also leave for the southern province to assist the flood victims. (TNA)
