Shura Chairman highlights progress of Bahraini press

Manama, May 6 (BNA): Shura Council Chairman, Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh, has asserted that the Bahraini press is using digital means and modern methods in undertaking its media and enlightening role, praising the keenness of the press to highlight the landmark achievements attained by the kingdom thanks to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s sound visions. He indicated that since the launch of HM the King’s Reform Project, the Bahraini press has flourished and its role in consolidating democratic principles and the fundamentals of the freedom of opinion and expression, established by the National Action Charter and the Constitution, has grown. He affirmed that the Bahraini press is an essential partner in achieving the government’s plans and programmes, praising the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for strengthening the pivotal role of the press in the kingdom, being one of the pillars of the democratic process. In a statement marking the Bahrain Press Day, celebrated every May 7, Al-Saleh extended congratulations to all journalists in the kingdom, praising their dedication and commitment to the ethics of the journalism profession. The Shura Chairman pointed out that the ongoing press renaissance in the kingdom and openness to modern digital media reflect the determination to consolidate the status of the press and its role in cementing national unity and highlighting the values of tolerance, pluralism and coexistence embraced by the Bahraini society. He expressed thanks and appreciation to local newspapers and the Information Affairs Ministry for their keenness to highlight the work of the legislative branch and promote the parliamentary culture. He indicated that the Bahrain Press Day is an opportunity to recall the efforts of the first generations of Bahraini journalists and their success in laying the foundations for journalism in the kingdom, as well as in celebrating the successes and distinction of the local press.
