Shura Council Deputy Speaker Meets IPU President

Kigali, October 10 (QNA) - HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sualiti met in Kigali, Rwanda, with HE President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco. The meeting dealt with several topics related to ways to enhance the relations between the two sides and several topics on the agenda of the 145th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, which is scheduled to take place Tuesday in Kigali, Rwanda. HE Dr. Al Sualiti, who chairs the Shura Council delegation to the IPU Assembly, praised the efforts and activities of the IPU, stressing the State of Qatar's support for those activities aimed at strengthening the cooperation between the IPU, parliamentary councils, and regional and international organizations to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). For his part, HE Duarte Pacheco expressed his appreciation for the regional and international initiatives and efforts of the State of Qatar and its support for developing countries and just causes around the world. HE Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sualiti held several meetings with parliamentarians participating in the 145th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly. Her Excellency met separately with HE Secretary General of the Parliamentary Union of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Muhammad Qureshi Nias, HE Second Deputy Speaker of Lower House of Jordan Haitham Ziyadin, HE Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan Shazia Marri. During the meetings, they reviewed the cooperation relations between the Shura Council, the OIC, the Jordanian Parliament, the National Assembly of Pakistan, and ways to strengthen them. Also, they reviewed several topics on the agenda of the IPU General Assembly and exchanged views on them. During the meetings, Her Excellency also reviewed Qatar's efforts to successfully host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, stressing that the success of this tournament represents success, not only for Arab countries but for all countries of the region. Her excellency said that she looks forward to receiving fans of this distinguished tournament which will contribute to achieving the rapprochement of people and strengthening the ties between them.
