Shura Council Participates in Parliamentary Meeting on COP27 Conference Sidelines

Sharm El-Sheikh (Egypt), November 13 (QNA) - The Shura Council participated Sunday in a parliamentary meeting in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, on the sidelines of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP27). The Council was represented in the meeting, which was organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in partnership with the House of Representatives of Egypt, by HE Mubarak bin Mohammed Al Kuwari and HE Salem bin Rashid Al Muraikhi, members of the Council. The meeting discussed various topics centered on climate change, the urgent need to address this crisis, the role of parliaments in facing this challenge, and supporting sustainability, in addition to the topic of "climate action and sustainable development", ways to prioritize accountability for climate justice, and increasing ambition towards accelerating the pace of transition to clean energy. A document issued by the meeting affirmed the parliamentarians' commitment to global efforts to address the phenomenon of climate change, which poses an existential threat to the planet. Also, the document underlined the need to work within parliaments to adopt laws and legislation that support mitigating the effects of climate change, strengthen the capacities of institutions in the field of climate-related risk analysis, and enhance the support provided to countries and local communities to face challenges in this regard.
