Shura member calls for using science, technology in implementing Arab development projects

Amman, July 19 (BNA): Shura Council member and First Deputy Chairperson of the Arab Parliament’s High-level Parliamentary Group on Science and Technology, Hala Ramzy Fayez, has called for the need to upgrade the status of science and technology to implement development plans in Arab countries, and enhance joint Arab action in the legislative field to advance sciences, technology and innovation according to international standards and indicators. She was speaking during the inauguration of the Permanent Office of the High-level Parliamentary Group on Science and Technology in Amman, in the presence of the Arab Parliament Speaker, Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoomi, and the Group Chairman, Khalid Abu Hassan. The meeting discussed the Group's work strategy, which aims to increase interest in science and technology, as well as support studies of the future in all fields, as the best means to empower Arab lawmakers in the fields of science, technology and innovation. Fayez, who chaired part of the meeting, held here yesterday, commended the role played by Speaker Al-Asoomi in supporting the Group, given its major role in boosting science, technology and innovation across Arab countries. Arab Parliament Speaker, Adel Al-Asoomi said that the opening of the Permanent Office the High-level Parliamentary Group on Science and Technology is among the most important initiatives launched by the Arab Parliament, noting that the choice of Jordan as hosts of the Group’s permanent office embodies its great status it enjoys at the Arab level, and reflects its pioneering role in serving joint Arab action. He also extended sincere thanks and appreciation to the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), chaired by Dr. Talal Abu Ghazaleh, for its great support for the High-level Parliamentary Group on Science and Technology.
