Solar power plant is strategic step towards renewable energy

Manama, Sep. 19 (BNA): Housing Minister Bassim bin Yacoub Al Hamer has commended the Cabinet’s approval to construct a 100 megawatt solar power-generating plant in the Kingdom as an important strategic step towards the adoption of renewable energy, which will have a positive effect on various sectors, including the housing sector.. The Cabinet endorsed the recommendation of the High Executive Commission spearheaded by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister as part of the government’s keenness to generate electricity for domestic consumption from clean and renewable sources, including solar, and the memorandum submitted by the Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs and approved yesterday during the Cabinet session. The project’s public tendering process will be invited in February 2018 and its construction will be completed by 2019.
