Sooronbay Jeenbekov’s address on occasion of Human Rights Day

10/12/19 11:53 PRESIDENT0, 2019. /Kabar/. Today, Dec. 10, 2019 President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov sent an appeal in connection with the Human Rights Day. In his appeal, the President noted Kyrgyzstan was one of the first countries in Central Asia to join the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1994. “UN ideas, aimed at protecting human rights and strengthening democratic principles are in line with the mentality of our society. Respect for the dignity of each individual, observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms, regardless of nationality, language, religion, strengthening of friendliness and mutual understanding between people - for us is equivalent to the preservation of centuries-old historical heritage and spiritual values of our people. Therefore, the protection of human rights has been and remains the main responsibility of the state. We strive to build a state in which the rights of every citizen are strictly observed, a society in which the citizen will be confident in the protection of their rights." Kyrgyzstan has ratified almost all international human rights treaties within the UN framework. The Kyrgyz leader stressed this year Kyrgyzstan celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. From 2016 to 2018, the Kyrgyz Republic was a member of the UN Human Rights Council. And this year, for the first time in the history of the country, Kyrgyzstan was elected to the UNESCO Executive Board. “We must build a cohesive society in which human rights and fair governance are strictly respected. Success of that pursuit depends on the steady observance of laws. Therefore, achievement of these goals depends on each of us. Dear compatriots! I wish everyone good health, peace and prosperity”. Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on 10 December every year. The date was chosen to honour the United Nations General Assembly's adoption and proclamation, on Dec.10, 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights and one of the first major achievements of the new United Nations. The formal establishment of Human Rights Day occurred at the 317th Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on Dec.4, 1950, when the General Assembly declared resolution 423(V), inviting all member states and any other interested organizations to celebrate the day as they saw fit.
