South Korean fugitive arrested in Nong Khai

NONG KHAI, Feb 26 (TNA) -- A South Korean man wanted for money embezzlement in his country was arrested in Nong Khai Province while trying to enter Thailand illegally. Bu Yon Kyan, 58, was arrested by Nong Khai Immigration Police while taking a long-tail boat ride from Laos to Tha Bo District of Nong Khai on Friday. Upon his arrest, immigration police contacted the South Korea Embassy in Bangkok to inform about the arrest. Further investigation found the man is wanted under a warrant in South Korea for embezzling 25 million won (1.7 million baht) from a construction contract in Incheon. The incident occurred in 2008 while he was a building contractor in South Korea. He ordered a large amount of construction materials but failed to pay for them before fleeing to Laos. He has worked as a contractor in Laos in the last several years. Authorities said the man would be sent back to South Korea to face the charge after police procedures are complete. (TNA)
