Speaker: Bahrain role model for sustainable development

Manama, Sep. 14 (BNA): Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Mulla, has asserted that Bahrain has become a role model for comprehensive and sustainable development. The kingdom’s sustainable development march is based on solid foundations, and led by distinguished national competencies who seek, most and foremost, to achieve more progress through the Reform Project, the democratic process, the state of law and institutions, the implementation of the Government Action Plan, the Economic Vision for Bahrain, 2030, the Government Forum 2016 Initiative, and many others, he said. He affirmed that the milestone achievements of the kingdom over the past years, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in the legislative, political, economic and development fields prove that it is making confident strides towards ensuring a brighter future. In a statement marking the International Day of Democracy 2016, celebrated on September 15 under the theme “Democracy and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, the speaker added that the success of the kingdom’s parliamentary experience, the consolidation of human rights principles, protection of freedoms and the activation of the laws of the state of law and institutions have opened up new horizons for the nation. He affirmed that the Legislature had joined hands with the Executive in serving the kingdom, and extending bridges of communication with the citizens, which, he said, contributed to boosting the comprehensive development march and paved the way for building a better future for the nation that brings all its citizens under the umbrella of justice, freedom, equality, human rights protection and respect for the law. The speaker extended sincere congratulations and gratitude to the leadership and people on the International Day of Democracy. He lauded the “effective” cooperation of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier. He hailed the kingdom’s strides in the fields of democracy, development and freedoms under HM the King’s Reform Project, stressing the Legislative Branch’s resolve to continue assuming its role in strengthening the democratic experience, and passing laws that meet the aspirations of the nation and the citizens, enhance the kingdom’s progress and ensure a better future for the coming generations.
