Strong Quake Hits North Sumatera

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale hit north Sumatera, Indonesia at 12.34 pm on Saturday. The Malaysian Meteorological Department said in a statement that the epicentre of the quake was located 118km south-west of Medan, Indonesia and 375km south-west of Bayan Lepas, Penang. The department said the tremor was felt in Penang, Kedah, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. However, no tsunami threat was reported. -- BERNAMA
