Success Of National Education Agenda The Responsibility Of All - DPM

SERDANG (Malaysia), April 26 (Bernama) - Muhyiddin Yassin says the government cannot implement the national education agenda on its own but need the involvement of stakeholders to achieve the status and high quality comparable to developed countries. The deputy prime minister said that to achieve success, the cooperation within and outside schools, particularly the close relationship between schools and Parents Teachers Association (PTA), should always be enhanced. "Since education today face challenges of globalisation, social phenomenon that is very challenging and aspirations to be achieved, concerted efforts must be made for changes in thinking and approach in line with needs and changes in education," he said at the inaugural National PTA 2011 awards ceremony with the theme 'PTA, The Catalyst Of 1Malaysia', here Wednesday. Also present were Deputy Education Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong, Education Ministry Secretary-General Dr Rosli Mohamed and Education Department Director-General Abd Ghafar Mahmud. Muhyiddin said continuous involvement of parents was needed to enable schoolchildren develop and help schools in planning integrated development activities. "PTAs can help in providing more comprehensive character development programmes for students or improving performance other than teaching and learning in classrooms." Since the national education system has more challenging social and economic functions, those involved in the sector must ensure that potential young generation could compete in an increasingly competitive global environment "Questions related to teacher quality, school leadership, curriculum and assessment, students ability to command languages, post-secondary opportunities for each student, role of parents and society, efficient and effective use of resources, capacity and ability of the delivery system should be taken seriously. "If all these important aspects can be strengthened via a process of transformation of education as a whole, I am sure our young people will be ready to lead the country in the near future." Muhhyiddin said quality education could be enjoyed by all levels of society regardless of the rich, the poor, those in urban and rural areas. The education sector was an important element in providing sustainable human capital to ensure what was intended by the government was realised. "It is the government's responsibility to ensure that the education system is able to produce quality human capital, the ability to control and apply knowledge and have the creativity and high innovation," he added. --BERNAMA
