Sukhothai’s Loy Krathong festival from Nov 1-5

SUKHOTHAI, Oct 31 (TNA) – Sukhothai Historical Park will organise the annual Loy Krathong and Candle Festival from Nov 1-5, in which an exhibition about HM late King Bhumibol will be displayed this year. Provincial governor, Pipat Ekpaphan expects up to 100,000 visitors with about 500-700 million baht to be circulated during the five-day event. On the first day of the event, a worship ceremony will be performed for late kings of Sukhothai era while the special exhibition will be held pay tribute to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. There will be a contest of Kratong or banana leaf baskets, floated during the festival on Nov 3. The winners will receive HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's Trophy. A daily alms offering for monks will be conducted at dawn and a light-and-sound show will be performed at dusk. Other activities include showcases of old-style Sukhothai villages and markets; traditional krathong processions and krathong floating. (TNA)
