Summer storms help fill reservoirs in Uthai Thani

UTHAI THANI, March 29 (TNA) – Summer storms help increase water in major reservoirs, said a senior officials of an irrigation project , adding water reserve will definitely adequate for consumption during this dry season. Director of Uthai Thani Irrigation Project, Thakorn Karnjiradej said summer storms at several areas in the past week increased the water, stored in the province’s two main reservoirs to about half of their capacities, much more than the low water reserve, recorded last year. He said currently, there is about 100 million cubic metres of water in two reservoirs. However, he asked for cooperation from farmers not to extend their farmlands for off-season rice cultivation and to cancel the second round of off-season rice farming if they do not have their own water reserve. Otherwise, they could face losses, like that occurred last year when farmer rice yields were affected by water shortage. (TNA)
