Suspect questioned over defamatory article

Manama, Sep. 5 (BNA): Chief Prosecutor of the Northern Prosecution, Mohammed Salah, said the Public Prosecution had received a report from the Cyber Crime Directorate indicating that an individual had published an article in a foreign newspaper in which he deliberately disseminated false news and information and tendentious rumours that undermine the kingdom's prestige and stature. The Public Prosecution questioned the suspect, who denied he had made that statement or any other statements to the newspaper. He said that it was impossible for him to make statements to any party, being remanded in custody pending trial over a case that is currently examined by courts. He also denied having any relationship with the newspaper or the article attributed to him, adding that the newspaper which used his name should bear the legal responsibility. The Public Prosecution charged him with deliberate dissemination of false news and spreading tendentious rumours that undermine the prestige of the state and its stature, the Chief Prosecutor said, adding that investigations into the case will continue.
