Swiss artist Niklaus Troxler to hang works at Tehran gallery

TEHRAN,Nov. 14 (MNA) -- A collection of works by Swiss graphic designer Niklaus Troxler will be showcased at an exhibit in Tehran next month. Organized by the Momayyez Foundation, which belongs to prominent Iranian graphic designer Morteza Momayyez, the exhibition will open at the Momayyez Gallery of the Iranian Artists Forum on December 9. The exhibit is part of a program arranged to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the death of Momayyez, who is considered as the father of modern graphic design in Iran. Troxler, a world-renowned artist specializing in poster design, corporate design, illustration and architectural murals, is one of Momayyez’s friends. He is founder of the Willisau Jazz Festival, an international event that was established in 1975 to feature the best in contemporary jazz. The festival gives him the opportunity to merge his two passions of graphic design and jazz music into one unique concept, artfactory.com said on its website. “Everything that fascinates me about jazz music is also what interests me in design: rhythm, sound, contrast, interaction, experiment, improvisation, composition, individuality,” Troxler once said. “I have been organizing jazz concerts for as long as I have been designing. Both activities have inspired me since the mid-1960s, and still have not lost any of their fascination,” he added. Last year, Troxler’s compatriot Bruno Monguzzi held an exhibition in honor of his friend Momayyez in Tehran. French graphic designer Pierre Bernard also organized a showcase in Tehran in 2008 in commemoration of Momayyez. Momayyez died of prostate cancer in Tehran on November 26, 2005. He was the chairman of the board of directors of the Iranian Graphic Designers Society from 1988 to 2004.
