Sydney Casino to Sue 10 Asian High Rollers for Not Repaying Credit

MELBOURNE, June 7 (Bernama) -- Ten Asian high-rollers are to be sued by Sydney's Star Casino for not repaying a A$23 million (US$22.98 million) credit to gamble at its casino. The Daily Telegraph said the group of Asian "whales" as they are known in the industry, were introduced to gambling in Sydney through an operator of group gambling tours, known as junkets. The Asian operator, SilkStar, has since has gone bust. The group to be sued include a property developer from Thailand, a Thai businesswoman and businessman with interests in Macau. The Star's parent company, Echo Entertainment, told its shareholders last week that some of the international VIP customers introduced to Echo by SilkStar, had outstanding amounts owed to it. "Echo will continue to vigorously pursue all possible avenues to recover the monies outstanding from these customers," it added. -- BERNAMA
