TAT holds Loy Krathong festival at Santi Chaiprakan Park

BANGKOK, Oct 30 (TNA) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will hold the Loy Krathong festival at Santi Chaiprakan Park in Bangkok from Nov 1-3. In this annual event, people will float banana – leaf baskets, decorated with flowers, joss sticks and candles on waterway as offerings to the Goddess of River. The park, located on the bank of the Chao Phraya River will be the venue of the various activities such as a demonstration of Krathong crafting with only biodegradable materials; ‘Retro Nostalgic’ market; performance of Khon classical masked dance and displays of Loi Krathong unique traditions of Chiang Mai, Sukhothai, Tak and Samut Songkhram. Apart from the main venue, organized by the TAT, the candle light festival will held at 71 spots across the capital. Deputy Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Maj-General Panurat Lakboon said the police are ready to provide security particularly at three major spots – Asiatique, Chulalongkorn University Centenary Park, and Rama VIII bridge park where more than 70,000 festival goers in total are expected. Closed-circuit television cameras have been installed to provide security at these places. Marine department will provide safety at piers along the Chao Phraya River and canals. Meanwhile, firework and lantern flying are banned and legal action will be taken against violators. (TNA)
