Terror suspects sentenced to 10, 15 years in jail

Manama, Sept. 27 (BNA): Chief Prosecutor at the Terror Crimes Prosecution, Mishal Al-Mannai, said that the fourth High Criminal Court had today sentenced two suspects to 10 and 15 years in jail, and confiscated the seized items. The defendants were found guilty of joining a terrorist group contrary to the provisions of the Law, and providing it with funds. According to the case documents, the Public Prosecution received a notification from the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) indicating that the second suspect had recruited the first suspect to join the so-called Al-Wafa Islamic Party. Further investigations confirmed the information, and showed that the first defendant had travelled to Iran, where he met the second suspect, who requested him to receive sums of money to finance the terrorist organisation’s affiliates in Bahrain.  When the first suspect returned to Bahrain, he received the funds and handed them over to the terrorist elements of the organisation for use in their criminal activities. The Public Prosecution charged the defendants based on the witnesses’ testimonies, the first suspect’s confessions and technical evidence. The Public Prosecution remanded the first suspect in custody and referred him to the fourth High Criminal Court. It also issued an arrest warrant against the second, who is still at large.  The defendants had been afforded full legal rights throughout the trial.
