Thai Cabinet to hold mobile meeting on Samui Island

SURAT THANI, THAILAND, October 20 (TNA) - Security in Thailand's southern Surat Thani province has been tightened for a two-day mobile Cabinet meeting on Samui Island in the province, set from October 21-22. Local police told reporters today that about 1,500 police officers will provide security for Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her Cabinet members during their upcoming mobile meeting; while another approximately 900 police officers will be assigned for controlling any demonstration, if occurred, during the meeting. Surat Thani Deputy Governor Wongsiri Promchana said preparations at Surat Thani Rajabhat University on the Samui Island, the venue of the forthcoming mobile Cabinet meeting, will be fully complete by Saturday. In nearby Nakhon Si Thammarat province, local officials was, meanwhile, cleaning and decorating the revered Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawiharn to welcome the prime minister and her Cabinet members, who are scheduled to visit the temple tomorrow before leaving for the Samui Island later in the day. The provincial authorities plan to push for the listing of the renowned temple as a new world heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in the future.
