Thai government websites function normally

BANGKOK, June 16 (TNA) - Websites operated by Thai government agencies, including those of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, have remained functioning normally despite recent messages posted on Facebook by a group of people opposing the government's single gateway system to sabotage the military websites. Thai Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Uttama Savanayana told journalists of the situation on June 15, after the group of people invited others who shared a similar idea to press F5 on their computers to sabotage the Thai military websites. Uttama said that he has seen the messages and assigned his ministry’s Electronic Transactions Development Agency to take responsibility and to cooperate with relevant government and private agencies to deal with the problem if it occurred. Uttama stressed that the relevant agencies have also been urged to stay on alert, while calling for opponents of the Thai government’s idea to implement the single gateway system to take negative impacts on the public into consideration. The minister acknowledged, however, that the identity of the people posting such the messages has remained unknown. The opposing Facebook messages emerged in response to the government's plan to organise a public referendum on Thailand's new Constitution draft on August 7, 2016. (TNA)
