Thai-Indonesian JC holds meeting

BANGKOK, November 14 (TNA) - The Thai-Indonesian Joint Commission (JC) held a fresh meeting in Bangkok on Thursday to discuss bilateral cooperation. Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul and Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa co-chaired the 8th Thai-Indonesian JC Meeting, during which they followed up actions in compliance with resolutions ่of the previous Thai-Indonesian JC meeting in 2010 when both sides signed five agreements and memoranda of understanding (MOUs). The 8th Thai-Indonesian JC Meeting also addressed other important areas of cooperation, including the suppression of transnational crime, terrorism, Internet crime, trade, investment, fishery, education and farm produce. The regional situation and bilateral cooperation between Jakarta and Bangkok within the frameworks of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) were also discussed. Thailand and Indonesia have particularly close relations on trade, as Indonesia is Thailand's second largest trading partner in ASEAN, after Malaysia, and is Thailand's 6th largest trading partner in the world. Thailand is also the 15th largest investing country in Indonesia with a total investment value of 68 million US dollars, while the value of bilateral trade between Thailand and Indonesia amounted to about 19.30 billion US dollars in 2012, when about 448,000 Indonesians visited Thailand and 57,032 Thais visited Indonesia.
