Thai police nab illegal migrant workers

BANGKOK, October 16 (TNA) - Police have arrested and detained dozens of illegal migrant workers at a construction camp in Thailand's central Ang Thong province. In their early Tuesday morning's raid at the construction camp of a wellknown mall in Ang Thong's Muang district, the police rounded up the 78 illegal workers, 54 males and 24 females, with part of them having no legal documents and some showing legal working permits but wrong locations. The police also found some infants. Based on preliminary interrogations, the illegal immigrants are all from neighbouring Myanmar who sneaked into Thailand through northwestern Tak province's Mae Sot district and through southern Ranong province and had worked for Rung Ruangkit Company, whose owner will be questioned and will be immediately prosecuted if found guilty of hiring the illegal migrant workers. According to the police, those arrested in Tuesday morning's raid represented the largest batch of illegal migrant workers having been nabbed in Ang Thong so far and they are all to be taken legal action.
