Thai youths win 27 gold medals at int'l maths contest
BANGKOK, October 27 (TNA) - Thai students have won 27 gold and 9 silver medals, as well as a trophy for the highest overall score for both the individual and team rounds at the primary school-level Wizard at Mathematics International Competition 2016 (WIZMIC), held in India during October 19-27.
Karun Sakulpradit, Secretary-General of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), told journalists of the 2016 WIZMIC's results on Thursday, after receiving an urgent report from India earlier in the day.
Karun said that the 16 winning Thai students were selected by OBEC for the 8-day international competition.
According to the OBEC chief, a total of 148 primary-level students, grouped in 37 teams, from 12 countries were participating in the 2016 WIZMIC, including those from the Philippines, Indonesia, South Africa, India, Nepal, Bulgaria, Iran, Tajikistan, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Nigeria and Thailand.
The OBEC chief extended his congratulations to the winning Thai students on bringing the prizes and fame to the nation and themselves.
The OBEC secretary-general announced that OBEC has one more international stage for Thai students to show their academic talents, which is the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary School (IMSO 2016), scheduled to be held in Indonesia during November 8-13. (TNA)
