Thailand completes update on TIP report

BANGKOK, Jan 21 (TNA) -- Thailand has completed an update on human trafficking situation to be sent for US State Department’s evaluation on the country’s status in the annual Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report. Maitri Inthusut, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security’s senior official, revealed that the update report would be submitted to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha of his approval before sending to the US within this month. Thailand was upgrade from Tier 3 to Tier 2 Watch List in the TIP report last year. The Thai government has said over the past three years it continues to mobilize full capacity to tackle the human trafficking problem with strong determination to solve the problem as a national agenda. New regulations have been in place such as that preventing outsourcing agents and subcontractors from bringing migrant workers into Thailand, especially into the fishery industry. This 170-pages document contained explanations of Thailand’s efforts to tackle human trafficking and progresses in the past year regarding victims’ protection and prosecutions against offenders, Maitri said.
