Thailand hosts ABU ROBOCON 2016

BANGKOK, Aug 21 (TNA) – Thailand is hosting the ABU Asia- Pacific Robot Contest 2016 in Bangkok on Sunday with 17 teams from 16 countries and territory, participating in this annual event. MCOT Public Company Limited has organized the event at the Indoor Stadium Huamark. This year, it is the third time that Thailand has hosted the event since the first one was held in 2002. Member countries take turn to host the event, which is aimed at developing engineering skills and promoting creativity and innovation as well as friendship and cultural exchange among youth in the Asia – Pacific region. In the competition, manual controlled and automatic robots of each team compete to accomplish the assigned task within a set period of time. This year, the contest theme is “Clean Energy: Recharging the World. According to the Asian Broadcasting Union (ABU) who co-organizing the competition with MCOT, the theme was designed to raise awareness on efficient energy consumption and clean and renewable energy utilization. Two teams, representing Thailand are from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi and Burirum Technical College. Other participating teams are from China, Egypt, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. (TNA)
