Thailand hosts World Ombudsman Conference

BANGKOK, November 15 (TNA) - Thailand hosts the 11th World Conference of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI)in Bangkok during November 13-19, aimed to exchange relevant experiences and academic knowledge among IOI member states for the promotion of good governance and the protection of human rights and freedom. Thailand's acting ombudsman General Witthawat Rachatanan told journalists on Tuesday that the one-week world gathering was organised by Office of the Ombudsman of Thailand, in which more than 114 organisations from six regions worldwide participate. General Witthawat said the one-week conference also provides a platform for ombudsmen from IOI member states to expand their countries' roles for future cooperation. Meanwhile, Secretary-General of the Thai Ombudsman Office Raksagecha Chaechai acknowledged that the ongoing conference is very beneficial, as each IOI member country can discuss problems and effective solutions to corruption in various forms. IOI was established in 1978 with over 100 member states worldwide. (TNA)
