Thailand marks 100 days after the King’s passing

BANGKOK, Jan 20 (TNA) -- The royal religious ceremony is scheduled to be held today and tomorrow at the Grand Palace to mark 100 days after the demise of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The Grand Palace has closed for two days during the event. Mourners will be allowed to pay respects before the royal urn of the late King at the Dusit Maha Prasart Throne Hall again on Sunday. The merit –making ceremonies were also held at government offices today. This morning, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha presided over the ceremony to give alms to 89 monks at Government House in a merit –making ceremony to mark the 100 days after the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The religious ceremony was also conducted at Santi Maitree building in Government House premises. The Prime Minister will attend the royal religious ceremony at the Dusit Maha Prasart Throne Hall at 5 pm. Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Navy is scheduled to hold many activities to mark the event. Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy Adm Na Areenit presided over the ceremony to give alms to 89 monks and release 989 birds this morning and Buddhist prayers ceremony was held. The main activities in remembrance of the late King will be held at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall from 5 pm to 7.30 pm. One of the highlight is demonstration of the royal barge procession, to be followed by the candle lighting ceremony to pay tribute to King Bhumibol. (TNA)
