Thailand observes World Day for Water

NONTHABURI, THAILAND, March 22 (TNA) - Thailand observes the World Day for Water, which falls on every March 22, by promoting royal initiations of late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej as modeled sustainable water management. Thai Natural Resources and Environment Minister General Surasak Karnjanarat presided over a ceremony to inaugurate Thailand's National Water Resource Conservation Week and the World Day for Water 2017 in Muang Thong Thani on the outskirts of Bangkok on Wednesday, during which an exhibition on modeled sustainable water management based on the royal initiations of the late and revered Thai monarch is on display, including the Chaipattana Aerator. Delivering a keynote speech at the event, General Surasak said the United Nations has envisaged the rising problem of water shortages that may lead to confrontations in affected global areas in the future and has, thus, designated every March 22 the World Day for Water to create public awareness worldwide on the significance of water, which is a basic need of all living things on the Earth, and to promote the spirit of water conservation among the humanity. General Surasak noted that "Waste Water" is the UN main theme for the World Day for Water 2017, as water is essential for the survival of humans and for their occupational developments, earning for their living and driving forward the global socio-economy through reduced waste water. The minister stressed that Thailand's National Water Resource Conservation Week and the World Day for Water 2017, themed "the Royal Philosophy and Sustainable Water Management", was aimed to honor and express the gratitude to the late and beloved Thai monarch, who has been honorable named the "Father of Thailand's Water Management" for his royal-initiated projects on addressing water problems for the Thai subjects, which have also been dignified worldwide, and to campaign for public reduction of waste water and water pollution in the country that has already been addressed only 15 per cent so far. According to the minister, the Thai government has paid attention to water management in all dimensions, namely floods, drought and waste water, and has, therefore, assigned relevant agencies to speed up solving all water problems from upstream to downstream areas, along with promulgating new bills on sustainable water management and developing local water sources based on the royal initiations for the sake of sufficient water supply to serve public demand nationwide.
